WhatsApp is rolling out a shortcut that shows your newest photo, screenshot or video right inside a chat. It is called Recent media suggestions, and it may switch itself on without you doing anything.
What changed
Sharing a fresh screenshot used to mean opening your gallery and finding it again. Now WhatsApp surfaces the latest saved file for you. Some users see a small pop-up with a thumbnail above the message bar when they open a chat. Others see the camera icon temporarily swapped for a thumbnail.
Tapping the suggestion opens WhatsApp's editor first. There you can review the file, add a caption or stickers, and decide whether to send it. Nothing goes out on its own, and you can dismiss the suggestion.
WhatsApp does not tell file types apart. It may suggest a new photo, a screenshot, an image downloaded from the web or a video saved from another app. It simply picks the most recently saved file, so something private could appear.
What to do
To turn it off, open Settings, then Chats, then Recent media suggestions, and switch off the toggle. This matters most if you share your phone or keep private images in your camera roll.
WABetaInfo reports a gradual rollout on Android and iOS, so it may take a few weeks to reach your phone. WhatsApp has not announced a date for wider availability.
The takeawayCheck Settings, then Chats, then Recent media suggestions, and turn it off if you would rather not see your latest photo offered in chats.
