WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new tool for people who run large communities on the app. It is called Organizations, and it would give admins one place to see who is in their community and which sub-groups those people belong to. It is still an early idea.
What was found
The feature was spotted by WABetaInfo, a account that tracks WhatsApp changes, in the WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.26.43.1. A beta is a test version of an app that shows work in progress. This one is available on the Google Play Store.
What it would do
Organizations would be a dedicated space for admins. It would show the organization name and a description, plus the total number of members.
- Admins could see the full member count.
- Tapping "View all" would open the complete member list.
- That list would also show which sub-groups each person belongs to.
How it differs from Communities
Organizations and Communities are not the same thing. A community brings related groups together. Members can join sub-groups and receive announcements from admins. An Organization would sit on top of a community as a management layer. Members would not see it or use it.
Who it could help
Anyone who runs a club, a school group or a customer community on WhatsApp and has many sub-groups could find it useful. Keeping track of hundreds of members across several groups is hard today, and this tool aims at that problem.
What happens next
Nothing is guaranteed. The report says Organizations is only an idea WhatsApp is exploring. It is in very early development and not close to a public release. No launch date has been given, and the final version could change or never ship.
The takeawayOrganizations could one day help admins manage big WhatsApp communities, but it is an early test with no release date.
