WhatsApp is rolling out a redesign for its iPhone and Android apps. iPhone users are noticing one thing first: the app's main accent color is now green instead of blue. Some people on X are not happy about it.
What changed
The layout is similar on both phones. Search now sits at the top. Below it, tabs let you jump to unread messages and groups. A row of icons along the bottom opens Chats, Updates, Communities and other features.
The bottom row is a bigger change on Android, which did not have one until now. Android users will not see a color shift, because that app was already mostly green. The update makes the two versions look more alike.
Reaction and open questions
Some commenters on X pushed back. One wrote, "We need the blue back." Another hoped their blue version would stay that way forever. A third posted, "BRING THE BLUE BACK." The Mashable writer's own iPhone app was still blue, so the update has not reached everyone yet.
Others asked a different question: why WhatsApp updates its iPhone app so often but still has no iPad app.
The report does not say when everyone will get the new design. It also does not say whether iPhone users can switch back to blue.
The takeawayExpect WhatsApp to look different soon, with a green accent on iPhone and the same features in slightly different places.
