WhatsApp is working on a single spot in its iPhone app where you can find every photo, video and link people have sent you. It was spotted in a test version of the app. It is still being built, and there is no release date.
What it does
The media hub will sit in the app's settings. It will show only media you received. Anything you sent will not appear, and neither will disappearing media.
- Two tabs: New for recent items and All media for everything
- Filters for photos, videos or links
- A switch between list view and grid view
- A heart icon to show only items you reacted to
For each item, you can forward it, add a reaction, star it, or jump to the chat where it arrived.
Search
The hub also has search. It works on photo and video captions and on links. That helps when you remember what something was but not when it was sent.
What is not known yet
The feature was found in WhatsApp beta version 26.42.10.74. A beta is an early test version that some users try before everyone else. The hub is not even available to beta testers yet. WhatsApp should start rolling it out to some of them in a future update. When it will reach everyone is unclear.
The same idea is not new for WhatsApp. Last year the company added a media hub on Mac and the web. It shows photos, videos, links and documents from all of your conversations in one place. The iPhone version is the next step.
The takeawayIf you often scroll through chats to find a photo or link, this iPhone feature could help, but wait for WhatsApp to release it.
