WhatsApp is testing cover photos for personal profiles. A cover photo is a wide banner image at the top of your profile. Until now, only WhatsApp Business accounts could have one. Now regular users may get it too.
What changed
The cover photo is a large landscape image. It shows at the top of your profile, in the app settings, and on the chat info screen when someone opens a conversation with you. It does not replace your current profile picture.
To add one, open your WhatsApp profile and tap Edit. You then have three choices:
- Take a new photo
- Pick an image from your phone gallery
- Create an image with Meta AI
WhatsApp automatically fits the image to the cover space. You also control who sees it. The four privacy options are Everyone, My Contacts, My Contacts Except, and Nobody. You can hide the photo from everyone without deleting it.
What happens next
The feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.26.43.11, on the Google Play Store. A beta is an early test version, so not everyone will see the feature right away. More users are expected to get it in the coming weeks. WhatsApp has not said when it will reach everyone. The material does not say whether iPhone users will get it.
The takeawayCover photos for personal WhatsApp profiles are in testing, and you can limit who sees yours before anything goes public.
