WhatsApp is testing a way to schedule messages on iPhone. You write a message, pick a date and time, and WhatsApp sends it for you, even if you are not in the app at that moment. The feature is limited to some beta testers for now, according to WABetaInfo, a site that tracks WhatsApp changes.
What it does
You can schedule a message in a one-on-one chat or a group chat. The timing has limits: at least 10 minutes ahead and up to two weeks ahead. That covers things like birthday wishes, reminders and announcements you want to go out at the right moment.
- Works for text, photos, videos and links.
- Each scheduled message holds one photo or video, so several items need several scheduled messages.
- Scheduled messages are protected by end-to-end encryption, like other WhatsApp messages.
How it works
After typing a message, tap and hold the send button. A scheduling screen opens where you choose the date and time. It shows the exact delivery time before you confirm. For a photo or video, tap and hold the send button from the drawing editor screen, the one where you can draw on or add to the picture.
Once scheduled, WhatsApp shows a confirmation in the chat. Only you can see it. The other person does not.
Changing your mind
The chat information screen now has a section for scheduled messages. In a group, you find it through the group information screen. You can review what is waiting to go out and delete any message before it is delivered. WhatsApp does not tell recipients when a scheduled message is deleted.
Groups have one rule to know. A scheduled message reaches only people who were in the group when you scheduled it. Anyone who joins later will not get it.
What happens next
The feature is in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.42.10.19, shared through TestFlight, Apple's service for testing unfinished apps. Access is rolling out gradually, so some testers on that version may not see it yet. More testers are expected to get it over the coming weeks.
WhatsApp has not announced a release date for the regular version of the app. The feature already appeared in the Android beta, so iPhone is following that path.
The takeawayScheduled messages are coming to WhatsApp on iPhone, but only beta testers have them and there is no public release date yet.
