WhatsApp is reportedly building a tool called Organizations, meant to help admins keep track of big Communities. Signs of it turned up in a beta (early test) version of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.26.43.1, according to a report by WABetaInfo.

What it would do

WhatsApp launched Communities in 2022 to bring related group chats under one roof. Today, an admin of a large Community may have to check each group one by one to see who belongs. Organizations could put that in a single screen. It could show the name, description and total number of members, plus a "View all" option for the full member list. It may also show which subgroups each person belongs to.

Who it affects

The tool is aimed at admins of schools, clubs, neighborhood groups and similar large Communities. Regular members are not expected to use it, and their current group chats should keep working as usual.

What is not known yet

  • No release date has been confirmed by WhatsApp.
  • It is not yet available even to beta testers.
  • It is unclear whether it will come to iPhone or other platforms.
  • The final design could change before any public rollout.

WhatsApp is also reportedly exploring scheduled messages on Android and a shortcut for sharing Instagram Reels in chats.

The takeaway

If you run a large WhatsApp Community, a one-screen member view may be coming, but there is no date and the design could still change.
