Two data companies, NIQ and Similarweb, say they are building a tool that tracks whether AI shopping chats turn into sales. It is not available yet. A first version is due in the fourth quarter of 2026, covering a small set of product categories and markets.
What changed
AI chat is moving from helping people find products to helping them buy. The companies point to Google's Universal Commerce Protocol and OpenAI's Agentic Commerce Protocol. These new systems let a shopper go from discovery to purchase inside one AI experience.
That leaves sellers with questions. Do our products show up in AI answers? Are they described correctly? Does that lead to visits and sales? NIQ will bring product, shopper and retail sales data. Similarweb will add data on behavior inside AI platforms and along the path to purchase.
What is not known yet
The tool is meant to cover ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and Claude. The companies have not said which categories or markets come first. They say more details on availability will follow as development progresses.
For anyone who sells products, the practical step does not need to wait. Check how your products appear when shoppers ask AI tools about them.
The takeawayIf you sell products, look at how AI chat tools describe them now, before this measurement tool arrives.
