Text your notes to yourself on WhatsApp or Telegram, and they get saved

The note app Capacities saves anything sent to a special WhatsApp or Telegram chat, so ideas can be captured fast and sorted out later on a computer.

A note app called Capacities lets you save notes by texting them to yourself. Connect it to WhatsApp or Telegram, send a message to a dedicated chat, and the message lands in your notes. Android Police writer Parth Shah says the trick pulled him away from Google Keep, which he had long used for quick thoughts, lists and ideas.

What changed

Capacities is a note-taking app that skips traditional folders. It organizes notes, projects, images and other content as linked items. It also offers daily notes, tags and backlinks, which are links that show where one note is mentioned in another. The new habit comes from its WhatsApp and Telegram support. Anything sent to the dedicated chat is saved to that day's note automatically.

The chat accepts several kinds of content:

  • Text messages
  • Photos and videos
  • Files
  • Voice recordings

Content forwarded from other conversations can be saved the same way, without switching apps.

How setup works

Setup is meant to be simple. In Capacities, open Settings, then Integrations, and pick WhatsApp. Follow the on-screen steps to connect your account. Saving the Capacities phone number as a contact makes it easy to find. Telegram works much the same way, except it uses a bot instead of a contact. Shah says both are officially supported, take a few minutes, and need no scripts, special keys or automation tools.

How it compares with Google Keep

Shah still praises Google Keep for its simplicity, Gemini integration, color-coded notes, checklists and reminders. He calls it one of the best options for jotting something down fast. But he says it feels basic next to Capacities, which adds graph views, calendar integration and dedicated items for projects and people. Capacities also has native apps on all major platforms, so notes follow you between devices.

His main point is about habit. WhatsApp and Telegram were already apps he opened many times a day. Capturing a thought there means no deciding where to file it in the moment. He reviews and organizes everything later at his desktop. He tested it on a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and a Windows computer.

What is not known

The article is one writer's hands-on opinion, not a formal test. It does not cover pricing, limits on free use, or how Capacities handles the privacy of messages sent through these chats. Shah says he would like to see support for Messages and Messenger in future updates, but no such plans are mentioned.

The takeaway

If WhatsApp or Telegram is already open all day, Capacities offers a way to jot notes there and organize them later, but check its cost and privacy terms first.
