Tesla updated its app this week to work natively on iPad and Apple's iPhone Duo. It also supports Android tablets and foldable devices. The update arrives just before the iPhone Duo launches on Friday, October 23.
What changed
Before, iPad owners could install the iPhone version, but it was not designed for a bigger screen. The new layout uses two columns. Navigation and controls sit on the left. A large view of the car or the home sits on the right.
- The car view covers climate, charging and security, plus shortcuts and a large rendering of the vehicle.
- The home energy view shows power moving between solar panels, a Powerwall, the home and the grid.
- Tesla says it reworked several views and plans more refinements in future releases.
Why the timing matters
Existing iPhone apps can run on the iPhone Duo. But apps must be built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later to resize to fill its inner display. Apps that are not updated show black borders. Tesla designer Alex Guichet announced the update on October 21.
What to do
The update is version 4.62.0, available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Owners with a Tesla or Powerwall who use a tablet or a larger display should update the app. The material does not say what the iPhone Duo costs.
The takeawayIf you control a Tesla or Powerwall from an iPad or iPhone Duo, update to version 4.62.0 to get a layout made for the bigger screen.
