Telia Finland has opened a free way for its mobile customers to report scam texts. If a suspicious message arrives, forward it to the number 7726. It costs nothing to report, and the company says the reports help it respond to scams faster.
What changed
Until now, a customer who got a strange text could mostly just ignore it. Now there is a direct route to the people who fight fraud. Antti Turunen, Telia's head of fraud prevention, said the company can react faster when customers send timely information. It can then use that information to prevent large-scale phishing attempts. Phishing means a message that tries to trick you into handing over personal or bank details.
Telia also says 7726 is already widely used in other countries, so the idea is not new. It is new for Telia customers in Finland.
Who it affects
The service is for Telia mobile customers in Finland. Anyone else can still learn from it: a scam text is best reported, not answered. The steps in the alert box above cover what to do, including what to do if you already shared details.
What is not known yet
The announcement is short. It does not say how quickly Telia acts on a report, whether senders get blocked, or whether customers will hear back. It also does not say whether customers of other carriers can use 7726 in Finland. Those answers will show how useful the service turns out to be.
The takeawayIf you are a Telia customer in Finland and a text looks like a scam, do not click it. Forward it to 7726 instead.
