Vertex, a tax software company, has launched Vertex Sōl, a system that uses AI for tax and compliance work while keeping people in charge. Teams choose how much the AI does. They can review, override or reverse its actions. Vertex announced it on Oct. 26, 2026.

What it does

Sōl ties tax and compliance to each sale, from the first tax decision through e-invoicing, reporting and audit defense. All of it sits on one record. Vertex says that makes it easier to trace any result back to the original transaction. The AI features run on Vertex Intelligence. Teams can set the AI to recommend, to assist, or to act on its own within limits they define.

Who it is for

The product is aimed at large companies that handle indirect tax, meaning taxes added to sales. Vertex says more than 60% of the Fortune 500 already use its software. Vertex also cites a survey it paid for, covering 402 tax software decision makers in the U.S. and Germany at companies with $150 million or more in revenue. Of those, 81% said they would adopt AI in compliance only with full visibility into its decisions and the power to override or reverse any action. Respondents were not told who sponsored the survey.

What is not known yet

The announcement gives no price and no release date. It says Sōl "will help" teams with existing and future capabilities, so some features may not be available yet. It also does not say how the AI performs in practice.

The takeaway

If your business uses AI for tax or paperwork, ask whether you can see how it decided and undo its actions.
