Solo.io, a cloud infrastructure company, has released agentshield, a free open source tool meant to protect a company's existing systems from AI agents it does not control. Open source means anyone can use the code and inspect how it works.
What it does
Most agent security today attaches controls to the agents a company runs, such as identity checks and guardrails. Those only work inside systems the company operates. Agentshield instead puts a layer of protection around the data, APIs (the connections software uses to talk to other software) and services already in place. That covers attacker agents, outside agents that misbehave, and a company's own agents if they escape their limits.
Solo.io says the weak spots are usually old ones: stolen logins that still work, permissions nobody trimmed, and systems that can reach more than they need. An AI agent keeps trying new paths after each block. Citing CrowdStrike, the company says attackers move from first foothold to spreading inside a network in 29 minutes on average.
What is not known yet
The announcement says agentshield offers five capabilities, but the text provided does not list them. It also does not explain how the tool is set up or how it performs in real use. The claims come from the company's own announcement.
The takeawayAI-driven attackers exploit old gaps fast, so trimming stale logins and extra access is worth doing now, with or without a new tool.
