Shopify has released its Fall '26 Edition, a twice-yearly batch of product updates, and one change stands out for store owners. A new Knowledge base page lets merchants approve what AI shopping assistants are allowed to say about their store. The release also adds fraud tools, more payment options and changes to in-store selling.
Fraud and payments
Shopify Protect, the platform's fraud and dispute toolkit, now has a rule builder. Merchants can write and test their own fraud rules inside the admin. Shopify says fraud signals are shared across its merchant network, so a card flagged on one store is already flagged on the next. It also says Shopify Payments blocks more than 12,000 high-risk payments every minute at no extra cost to merchants who use it.
Several payment methods are now built into Shopify Payments, so a separate plugin is no longer needed.
- MB WAY, Satispay, Scalapay and PayNow now work inside Shopify Payments.
- Those methods also appear in Shop Pay and the Shop app.
- Satispay, Scalapay and GrabPay now work in person through Shopify POS.
- Australian merchants can offer Shop Pay Installments, including longer-term interest-free options.
More payout currencies are also available across Australia, France, Singapore and Hong Kong. A cross-border sale now lands in the currency it was made in, instead of being converted automatically.
AI assistants and your store
Shopify Connectors now work with nine AI agents, including ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity. Merchants can manage products, inventory, orders and performance from inside those chats. Sidekick, Shopify's own assistant, can now run calculations, write code, search the internet and remember earlier instructions. It still needs merchant approval before it changes anything.
The Knowledge base page sits under Sales channels in the admin. Merchants review and approve facts such as return windows, shipping destinations or gift services before any of it reaches an AI agent.
What shoppers get
A new skill called shop.md turns agents like ChatGPT or Claude into a personal shopping assistant. It can search more than a billion products, check out with Shop Pay and track orders. Shopify says the buyer stays in control and that card details are never shared with the agent. Payments are handled through tokenised payments via Mastercard, Visa and Discover.
The Shop app also gets a universal checkout for buying from several merchants in one session. Carts now sync between the app and a merchant's own store. Shop.com, a new website, brings shoppable posts and order tracking to people without the app.
In the physical store
Shopify POS can now recognise more in-store customers, when a shopper opts into a digital receipt and agrees to share their details. Shopify says a recognised customer has more than 60% higher lifetime value than one who is not identified. A new recent carts feature lets any staff member finish a sale from any device.
What is not yet clear
The announcement as reported does not say when each feature reaches every store. It also does not list fees for the new tools, apart from the fraud blocking, which Shopify says carries no extra cost for Shopify Payments users.
The takeawayIf you sell online with Shopify, check the new Knowledge base page so AI assistants only share facts about your store that you have approved.
