What to do
  1. 1Restart your phone or toggle airplane mode when the connection drops.
  2. 2Check if the problem is limited to one Wi-Fi band or one network.
  3. 3Report the issue to Samsung or on its community forum.
  4. 4Install Samsung's November update when it arrives and test your connection.

Some Galaxy owners who installed Samsung's One UI 9 update say their phones now struggle to stay online. Complaints about broken Wi-Fi and mobile data are piling up on Samsung's community forums and Reddit, Android Police reports.

What changed

One UI 9 is Samsung's new software version for Galaxy phones. It reached the public after months of testing, yet connection bugs still slipped through. Wi-Fi seems to be the most common problem. Some people reset their network settings and it did not help. Reports mention the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, S24 series, A55 and A36.

The symptoms vary. One phone joined other saved networks but refused the home one. Another worked on the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band but not 5GHz, while other devices worked on both. A T-Mobile Fold 7 owner kept Wi-Fi but lost Wi-Fi calling. One A56 owner says the phone no longer sees any SIM card. That looks rarer. Some people get Wi-Fi back with a restart, only to lose it again hours later.

Who can relax

If your phone connects normally, nothing in the reports suggests you need to act. Android Police notes that a bug affecting a small share of users can still produce many complaints, given how many Galaxy phones Samsung sells.

What happens next

No clear cause has been found, and Samsung has not yet acknowledged the problem. The hope is that its November firmware update fixes it, but that has not been confirmed. The alert box above lists what to try in the meantime.

The takeaway

If your Galaxy lost its connection after One UI 9, you are not alone. Try the steps above and test again after Samsung's November update.
