Intuit is building AI into QuickBooks that does more than answer questions. One example is chasing unpaid invoices for you. The company says up to 60% of small businesses on QuickBooks have invoices that are 30 days past due. Customers who use invoice automation get paid up to four days faster, according to Intuit.
What changed
At its Intuit Connect 2026 event, Intuit talked about expanding its Intuit Intelligence Platform. It spans QuickBooks, Intuit Accountant Suite and Intuit Enterprise Suite. Arundhati Singh, a senior vice president at Intuit, told Small Business Trends the goal is AI that takes work off an owner's plate, not just AI that explains numbers.
Intuit also points to planning help. Owners can ask whether it is the right time to buy expensive equipment. They can also ask what higher marketing spending might look like.
How the invoice reminders work
Singh said QuickBooks should spot the problem when you log in. If unpaid invoices are climbing, it shows where they come from and whether certain kinds of customers are behind. It can also compare your unpaid invoices with similar businesses, so you know what is normal for your industry and size.
Then it can suggest an automation that sends reminders and stops once the payment arrives. Singh described setting it up as one tap. Intuit says there is $2.7 trillion of invoices on its platform.
Where owners stay in charge
Owners choose how the automation behaves. Singh said you can set the trigger, such as invoices past 60, 45 or 15 days due. You can also set how much outstanding money should start the reminders. She said the owner can always control, review and edit.
Cash flow is handled more carefully. If QuickBooks sees a likely shortfall, it can suggest options, including a line of credit that Intuit would underwrite using your cash flow data. Underwriting means Intuit decides whether to offer you the credit. Singh said it will not tap that line on its own. It shows the option and lets you think it over and talk to your accountant.
What to do
- Check how many of your invoices are past due before turning anything on.
- Pick reminder timing you are comfortable with, so good customers are not nagged.
- Review the settings after setup, since you can edit them.
- Talk to your accountant before using any credit option.
What is not known yet
The 60% and four-day figures come from Intuit's own data, and the material does not explain how they were measured. The available text also does not say what these features cost, which plans include them, or when every customer will get them.
The takeawayAutomatic invoice reminders may help you get paid sooner, but set the timing and thresholds yourself and keep credit decisions in your own hands.
