Pocket Prep, a study app for professional certification and licensing exams, has launched an AI tutor called Tutor. The company announced it on Oct. 27, 2026. Its main feature is what it holds back: Tutor is built to help you think through a practice question rather than simply hand over the answer.

What it does

Pocket Prep says Tutor is a mobile-first tool meant to help you use what you already know and make sense of what you don't. The idea comes from a learning principle the company cites: knowledge sticks when you pull it from memory yourself. It says quick AI answers can create a false sense of learning that fades under exam pressure.

Cost and who it is for

Tutor is free for every Pocket Prep user, on every platform, with no upgrade required. Pocket Prep says more than 8 million people have downloaded its app. It targets working adults preparing for high-stakes exams, such as those taken by nurses, social workers and firefighters, who the company notes cannot reach for AI in an emergency.

What is not known yet

The announcement does not say which exams Tutor covers or how its questions and hints work in detail. It also offers no test results showing that students pass more often. The claims about better recall come from the company and its description of the research. Details are on the Pocket Prep website.

The takeaway

If you study for a work exam in Pocket Prep, Tutor is free to try, but the claim that it improves recall is the company's own for now.
