More than half of U.S. holiday shoppers now ask AI tools for help. Adobe found that 52% of consumers use generative AI, the kind that answers questions in plain language, to support their holiday shopping. The same research shows email is still the channel most people want for holiday messages from brands.
What the survey found
Adobe says 57% of consumers prefer holiday communications by email. Direct mail came next at 34%, followed by text messages at 27%. People may use AI to compare products, find gift ideas, check prices or look up delivery options.
Preferences differ by group. Gen Z shoppers are 89% more likely than older generations to want app notifications. iOS users are 37% more likely than Android users to prefer that channel. Women are 30% more likely than men to want brands to reach them by text.
Who it affects
Small online sellers feel this most. If an AI shopping tool picks up an outdated price or a wrong delivery deadline, a customer may never reach the checkout page. They may also lose trust in the business.
Adobe also promotes a product called GenStudio for Performance Marketing. It uses generative AI to create versions of email, paid ads and display ads that follow a company's brand rules. For a small team, it could turn one gift guide into several formats faster. The article warns that AI copy can contain wrong product details or unsupported claims, so a person still needs to check it.
What to do
- Keep prices, discounts, stock levels and delivery deadlines the same on your website, emails and social media.
- Start with email, then add text, app alerts or direct mail based on customer behavior and consent.
- Build campaigns early, but send gift promotions when customers show they are ready to buy.
- Review any AI-written copy before it goes out.
How much to trust the numbers
Adobe surveyed 1,003 U.S. consumers, with a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points. The answers are self-reported, so they may show what people believe about their habits, not what they actually do. Treat the findings as a planning guide, not a rule that fits every shopper.
The takeawayMake sure your prices, stock and delivery dates match everywhere, because AI shopping tools read every channel and customers may trust what they find.
