New AI tool blocks risky Shopify orders before they ship

Chargeflow's Prevent 2.0 scans Shopify orders after checkout and blocks risky ones before shipping, just as 'never arrived' disputes tend to spike.

Chargeflow, a company that helps online stores fight chargebacks, has launched Prevent 2.0, an AI model that checks each Shopify order after checkout and blocks the risky ones before they ship. A chargeback is when a buyer asks their card company to take the money back. The company says the new version catches ten times more fraud and abuse than the last one.

What it does

Prevent 2.0 makes its call in the window between checkout and shipment. Shoppers see no change at checkout. It now covers stolen-card fraud and friendly fraud in one decision. It also looks for odd delivery patterns, such as different names shipping to the same address.

It also tries to spot known repeat disputers, meaning buyers with a history of disputing orders they actually received. Chargeflow says it can flag such a buyer even on a first order with a new store, because it draws on dispute data from across its merchant base. The company says that base is more than 20,000 merchants.

Why the timing matters

Chargeflow also launched a Data Lab and shared early findings from about three million disputes across the last three peak seasons. Over Black Friday to Cyber Monday weekend in 2025, 34.7% of chargebacks said the order never arrived. In a normal week, that figure was 19.9%. The company says the same jump showed up in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Fraud claims moved the other way. They made up 27.2% of chargebacks that weekend, down from 37.8% in a normal week. So 'never arrived' claims outnumbered fraud claims on the busiest weekend of the season.

Cost and availability

Prevent 2.0 is live for Shopify merchants. Stores already using Prevent are moved to the new version automatically, with no setup. New users get their first 1,000 scanned transactions free until Dec. 31, 2026.

  • After that, it costs $0.10 per scanned order or subscription renewal.
  • New merchants can install the app from the Shopify App Store and turn on Prevent.
  • Existing Chargeflow merchants can enable it from their account.

What to do

The data points to a simple habit for sellers. Of 'never arrived' cases that reached a decision, those backed by strong evidence, such as proof of delivery, were won about 1.5 times as often. Keeping delivery proof for every order gives a store a better shot at winning.

The numbers come from Chargeflow's own data and press materials. The material does not say how the tool performs for any single store, so merchants may want to watch their own results after turning it on.

The takeaway

Shopify sellers should expect more 'never arrived' disputes this holiday season and keep proof of delivery for every order.
