Netflix has launched AI Discover, a new tab that suggests shows and movies based on your mood, the time you have and who is watching with you.
Netflix has started rolling out a new way to pick something to watch. It is called AI Discover, and it lets you search by mood instead of by title. It is a new tab in the Netflix TV app, and Netflix announced it the day before this story was published. It is available to certain users, after tests that began last year.
You start by picking a theme, such as "Something Light" or "Scare Me." You can also pick by how much time you have or who you are watching with. Netflix then matches you with options from its catalog.
Netflix calls AI Discover its "test kitchen," a place to try new recipes for finding shows. In its blog post, the company said some of these ideas may make their way into the main Netflix experience.
The material does not say which users can see the tab now or when everyone will get it. It also does not say whether it works outside the TV app, or how the AI behind it makes its picks. Since Netflix describes it as a test, the features could change.
