Apple's latest iPhone update, iOS 27.2, lets you find a lost Apple TV remote in the Find My app. Until now, the Siri Remote was the one Apple device missing from it. After updating, open Find My, tap the Devices tab, and compatible remotes should be listed there.
What changed
Siri Remotes from the 2nd generation onward now show up in Find My. There was already another way to locate one, through the Remote app in Control Center. But most people probably never knew it existed.
The bigger gains come with the new Siri Remote, the 4th generation. It has a built-in speaker and supports Precision Finding. Your iPhone can guide you step by step to the remote and make it play a sound.
Who it is for
- Owners of a Siri Remote (2nd gen or later) get it in the Devices tab.
- The 4th gen remote comes with the 4th generation Apple TV 4K, or sells separately for $59.
- It works with all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models.
- Precision Finding needs an iPhone 17 or newer.
What is not clear
The report does not say how much older remotes can do in Find My beyond appearing in the list. The step-by-step guidance and the sound are tied to the new remote. Anyone with an older iPhone will not get Precision Finding, even with the new remote.
The takeawayUpdate to iOS 27.2 and check the Devices tab in Find My before buying a replacement remote.
