Legal AI startup Legora raised $550 million and is now valued at $8.8 billion. That is up from $5.6 billion about seven months ago. The company shared the news in a blog post on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The round is called a Series E, a late-stage funding round where investors buy a stake. Atreides Management led it.
What Legora does
Legora was founded in 2023 and launched its platform in October 2024. It sells software to law firms and to in-house legal teams, meaning lawyers who work inside a company. Its product, Legora aOS, is what the company calls an agentic operating system. In plain terms, it uses AI agents, programs that can carry out tasks with some independence.
The company says 140,000 legal professionals at 2,400 firms and legal teams in 80 markets use it. It also says its annual recurring revenue, the yearly income from ongoing customers, has reached $200 million. The last $100 million came in under six months.
What is not known yet
Legora plans to expand in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. It also plans to add products for agentic intake, horizon scanning and legal research. The post does not explain those terms or give launch dates.
CEO Max Junestrand said AI is changing the lawyer's role, with more time for judgment and advice. The material does not say what Legora costs or whether clients will see lower legal bills. Anyone who hires lawyers may want to ask their firm how it uses AI.
The takeawayLegal AI is drawing big money, but whether it lowers what clients pay is still unanswered, so ask your lawyers how they use it.
