The first leaked specs for Apple's iPhone 18e suggest a small step forward. The e-Series is Apple's lower-priced line. The leak, from a source called Digital Chat Station on Weibo, says the screen will again refresh only 60 times a second, even though other non-Pro iPhones go up to 120.
Refresh rate is how often the screen redraws each second. Higher numbers make scrolling look smoother. The other non-Pro iPhones use an adaptive 1-120Hz screen. Tom's Guide expects the e-Series to keep the lower rate for a few more years, since savings have to come from somewhere.
Memory is another question. Some rumors point to 9GB, up from 8GB. That would help, but it is still below the 12GB needed for newer on-device AI features such as Expressive Voices and advanced dictation. The selfie upgrade is interesting because the iPhone 17 has an 18MP front camera.
None of this is confirmed by Apple. Launch dates for the iPhone 18 and 18e are unknown. The iPhone 17e arrived in February, so a similar window is a good bet. Anyone eyeing a cheaper iPhone may want to wait for official details.
The leaked iPhone 18e keeps a 60Hz screen and may miss newer AI features, so wait for Apple's official specs before buying.
