Kuwait's telecom regulator says it received 621 reports of fraud and scams in the third quarter of the year. The biggest share did not come from text messages or calls. It came from websites, with 276 reports. The regulator is the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority, known as CITRA.
Websites and social media together account for 439 of the 621 reports. Text messages, often the first thing people warn each other about, drew just two.
CITRA urged the public to report suspicious messages, links and calls. It also warned people not to share personal information with parties they do not trust.
The report does not say what types of scams were involved, how much money was lost or how these numbers compare with earlier periods. It also does not say how many reports were confirmed as real fraud. These are counts of reports people made, not proven cases.
In a separate announcement, CITRA said a team visited a manufacturing site in Germany to check equipment for a radio spectrum monitoring system. That project is not tied to the scam figures.
Be careful with links on websites and social apps, and never hand personal details to people or pages you do not trust.
