A startup called Karta AI has raised $3 million to build phone agents that answer customer calls for banks, lenders and insurers. The company says its AI now handles about 2 million customer conversations a month, in more than 25 languages. If you have ever waited on hold to ask a simple question, this is the kind of tool meant to replace that wait.
What Karta AI does
Karta AI makes voice agents for inbound calls, meaning calls that customers make to a company. The agents connect to a company's internal systems, so they can look things up and finish tasks, not just talk. A person steps in only when the call needs escalation.
The company says older voice bots usually handle one specific question. Karta AI says its agent can deal with several requests in the same conversation. It also learns from past calls handled by both human agents and AI.
The numbers, and a caution
- About 2 million customer conversations a month.
- More than 25 languages.
- About 70% of borrower queries resolved start to finish, up from 0%, by the company's own account.
The 70% figure covers tasks like checking a loan payout status, getting account statements, getting foreclosure statements and releasing property documents. These figures come from the company, and the report does not say they were independently checked. It also does not name the banks or lenders using the product.
The money and the plans
The seed round was led by PeerCapital and Cedar Hill Capital. Wyser VC, CDM Capital and Seedstars also took part. Karta AI, based in Bengaluru, was founded in 2024 by Vijaypal Singh and Abhishek Kushwaha.
The funds will go toward better end-to-end automation and language support, more deployments with financial institutions, and bigger engineering and sales teams. Later, the company wants to build reusable tools for specific industries and expand into other countries.
A crowded field
Karta AI is not alone. Investors have been backing similar startups in India. Desible.ai raised Rs 32 crore, Navana.ai raised Rs 40 crore, and Rezolv raised $12.5 million. Arrowhead and Gnani.ai are also named as players in this area.
What it means for callers
Expect quicker answers on routine requests, such as checking a status or asking for a statement. The company's design also lets a call be passed to a person when needed. How easy that handoff feels will depend on each bank, and the report does not say.
The takeawayBank calls are increasingly answered by AI. Expect quick help on simple tasks, and ask for a person if your issue is not routine.
