Apple's iOS 27.2 lets FaceTime show your face and the room around you at once, now on group calls too, if everyone has updated to version 27 software.
Apple's iOS 27.2 update expands a FaceTime feature called Dual Capture to every video call, including group calls. It shows your face and whatever is happening around you at the same time. It needs an iPhone 17 or newer, and everyone on the call must be running version 27 software.
Dual Capture first arrived in FaceTime with iOS 27. Normally you pick one camera: the front one to show your face, or the rear one to show the room. Dual Capture uses both. Until now it only worked on one-on-one calls. With iOS 27.2, it works on any video call.
On an iPhone 17 or newer, tap the Flip button during a video call. By default, both the front and back cameras turn on. The 9to5Mac writer calls it a huge upgrade, especially with young kids running around. Grandparents can see the children and you at the same time.
Everyone on the call needs iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 installed. That means the feature depends on the people you call as much as on your own phone. A relative who has not updated is the likely sticking point.
The update also adds a few features that are easy to miss. iOS 27.2 brings changes to Messages, Podcasts and Photos as well, though the details here focus on FaceTime.
To try Edge Light on an iPhone Duo, open Control Center during a FaceTime call, tap FaceTime Controls, then tap Edge Light. You can then adjust the intensity and color temperature. It works across several video calling apps, not just FaceTime. For Dual Capture, check that family members have updated before you call.
Update to iOS 27.2 and ask family to update to version 27 software too, or Dual Capture will not work on your calls.
