Google's phone plan, Google Fi, works in over 110 countries with no extra fees or hidden charges. An Android Police writer calls it arguably the best carrier for Pixel owners. He says he would switch to it in a second if it were available where he lives.
What it does abroad
The writer usually buys a temporary eSIM when he travels. An eSIM is a digital SIM card that gives a phone a local data plan without a physical card. It is affordable, he says, but it can have connection problems.
With Google Fi, a Pixel phone automatically finds and switches to the best network in each country. The connections are 5G, so there is no need to fall back on older 3G networks. The phone also joins Wi-Fi on its own when the cell signal is weak.
Speed at home
Google Fi is an MVNO, which means it rents network access from a bigger carrier. It uses T-Mobile's network. Customers of rented-network plans often get lower priority than the main carrier's own users, which can mean slowdowns in busy places.
The review says Google Fi is different. It shares equal priority with T-Mobile's own customers. All of its main plans also include unlimited data.
The price
The writer admits the service is expensive and costs slightly more than other MVNO plans. He also notes that the best deals go to people with a Pixel phone.
Google runs regular promotions that take 50% or more off the price. A recent one cut the Unlimited Premium plan to $17 a month for a year. Phone deals have appeared too:
- Over $1,000 off the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro Fold
- $300 off the Motorola G Stylus 2026
- A separate promotion on the Pixel 11 Pro XL
What is not covered
This is one writer's opinion, not a test. The article does not list the countries, give the regular plan prices or say how long the deals last. It also does not measure speeds abroad. Anyone who travels often should check those details with Google before switching.
The takeawayFrequent travelers with a Pixel may save on temporary eSIMs with Google Fi, but check the full price and country list first.
