Google's first smart glasses may be close. Warby Parker said in its third quarter earnings release that pre-orders for its Intelligent Eyewear collection open on November 12. Google has not confirmed that date. Warby Parker co-CEO Dave Gilboa said the company expects to deliver orders during the holiday season.
What the glasses do
Google is making these glasses with Samsung, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. It announced the partnership in 2025 and showed the launch models at this year's Google I/O. All of them run an audio-focused version of Android XR, Google's software for augmented and virtual reality. They have cameras and give quick access to Gemini, Google's AI assistant.
Google has also shown glasses with a true augmented reality display, which puts images in your view. It is not clear when those will be available.
The camera question
Cameras on your face make some people uneasy. Misuse of the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses has been well documented, and Meta has tried to fix problems with software updates. Engadget notes that distrust of people wearing cameras is growing, and Google's approach looks very similar. Anyone buying a pair as a gift should expect some people to be wary.
What is not known yet
- Whether Google will confirm November 12
- Whether Gentle Monster designs will be available that day
- Pricing, which the source material does not mention
Engadget has asked Google for details and says it will update its story if the company replies.
The takeawayPre-orders reportedly open November 12, but Google has not confirmed it, and the built-in cameras may bother people around you.
