Google CEO Sundar Pichai says he now uses AI agents to keep up with his own company. Agents are programs that carry out tasks for you. He described the setup on the Sources podcast, hosted by Alex Heath and released Wednesday, according to Business Insider.
What the agents do
Pichai said catching up on the last 24 hours could easily take him an hour a day. Now agents summarize it and bring it to him. He can still dig deeper, and says he often does. Agents also help him follow how Google's AI models are developing, see how computing resources are used, and track threads across many internal chat groups.
He said the agents run in the cloud around the clock, have his context, and can pick up where he left off.
Limits and unknowns
Pichai said people, including him, still make the consequential calls on how computing resources are allocated. Business Insider also noted that managing agents is a skill of its own. Workers must check the output and stop agents from repeating work or straying from their assignments. A Cisco engineering director who manages more than 10 agents said it means more task switching and more intense work, without shorter days.
The report does not say which tools Pichai uses, how many agents he has, or whether the same setup is available outside Google.
The takeawayAI agents can take over routine catch-up work, but people still make the big decisions and must check what the agents produce.
