Google Pay in India is testing a fashion shopping section called Discover Shop. It lets people browse clothes, follow trends and see how some outfits might look on them. So far, only a small group of users has it. Google shared the news in a blog post.
What it does
Discover is a new section inside the Google Pay app. It runs on Google's Shopping Graph, a catalog of more than 60 billion products. The feed shows fashion items and trends picked to match your tastes and your activity on Google services. It also shows YouTube videos that help you learn more about the clothes.
- Virtual Try-On shows selected outfits on you, right on the screen, so you can judge if an item may feel loose or tight.
- Visual Search lets you snap or upload a photo of clothing and finds similar products on the web.
- Tapping a product shows details such as colour, size and format.
- Google also plans to suggest ready-to-wear outfits for daily use in the future.
How buying works
Discover helps you find items, but it does not complete the sale. To buy something, you go to the seller's own website.
How to look for it
Update Google Pay from the Play Store and look for a new Discover icon at the bottom of the screen. If it shows up, you can use the tools. If not, you may need to wait a few days. You need a personal Google account with Web and App Activity and search personalisation switched on. Those settings let Google use your activity to tailor the suggestions.
What is not known yet
Google has not said when Discover Shop will reach everyone. The material does not mention any fee for the feature. The article page also carries a pasted gift card offer that says it was copied from a WhatsApp channel. Nothing in the material shows it comes from Google, so treat it with care.
The takeawayIf you see a Discover icon in Google Pay, you can try it, but know it uses your Google activity and you still pay on the seller's site.
