Google Docs on Android now has a feature called Docs Live for people who use a Google Workspace account. Workspace is the paid, work version of Google's apps. If your employer pays for it, the new option may already be in the Docs app on your phone.

What changed

Docs Live works inside the Google Docs app on Android. Until now, the report says, work account users could not use it. Now they can. The name and the pitch echo Gemini Live, Google's tool for talking with its AI out loud.

Who it affects

The change is aimed at people on Google Workspace accounts who use Docs on an Android phone. If you only use a free personal Google account, the material does not say whether this applies to you.

What is not known yet

The source material is short, so several details are missing. It does not say exactly what you can do by talking to Docs Live, or how it differs from Gemini Live. It also does not give a price, a rollout schedule, or whether your company's administrator has to switch it on. Features like this often reach users in stages, so it may not show up for everyone at once.

What to do

Open the Google Docs app on your Android phone while signed in to your work account. See whether Docs Live appears. If it does not, ask whoever manages your company's Google Workspace whether it is available to your team.

The takeaway

If your company pays for Google Workspace, open Docs on your Android phone and check whether Docs Live has appeared.
