GoDaddy CEO Aman Bhutani says small businesses should hand routine work to AI, but not give up control of their brand. He shared the view in an interview with Business Insider.

GoDaddy is a domain registrar and web-hosting company. It says it has over 20 million customers, and most are micro businesses with fewer than 10 employees. Bhutani says these owners have passion and expertise but less technical skill and little spare time. "There is not enough time in the day," he said.

What AI can take on

A recent survey from GoDaddy's small business research lab found that US entrepreneurs see the biggest time savings from AI in content creation, marketing and business advice.

GoDaddy offers Airo, an agentic tool, meaning AI that can carry out tasks. Airo builds websites. Bhutani said it can also create logins so a business's customers can make website profiles. It can send outreach based on a customer's location or involvement with the business.

Where to keep control

Bhutani said owners should use agents for tasks they are not skilled at, or that do not set them apart from rivals. Humans should decide what makes their product unique and should not hand over their customers' experience. AI can help with research and offer ideas. "The human should continue to control their branding," he said.

The interview does not say what Airo costs or how many owners took part in the survey.

The takeaway

Let AI handle chores like websites and marketing, but make the final calls about your brand yourself.
