Figma beat forecasts and raised its outlook, yet shares fell 7% after hours because it is giving customers more AI at the same price.

Figma, the design software company, reported better-than-expected results for the third quarter, and its stock still dropped about 7% in extended trading. That is the period after the regular market day ends. The reason is a choice that could cost some money now: customers get more AI credits without paying more.

The numbers

Revenue grew about 43% from a year earlier. Net loss narrowed to $81.3 million, or 15 cents per share. A year earlier, the loss was $1.10 billion, or $2.72 per share. Adjusted operating margin, a measure of profit from running the business, came in at 12%. Analysts polled by StreetAccount had expected 6.1%.

A higher forecast

Figma also raised its outlook for the full year. It now expects revenue of $1.497 billion to $1.499 billion, up from $1.463 billion to $1.467 billion. Analysts surveyed by LSEG had looked for $1.471 billion. The company lifted its expected operating margin to 11% from 9% in August.

For the fourth quarter, Figma sees revenue growth slowing to about 33%. Analysts had predicted 28%, so that is also above expectations.

Why investors still sold

During the quarter, Figma began giving clients more AI credits while keeping prices the same. Finance chief Praveer Melwani told CNBC this means "potentially trading off near-term revenue" in order to grow durably over the long term. Investors appear to be weighing that tradeoff.

The stock has also had a rough year. Shares are down about 41% in 2026, while the S&P 500 has gained 12%. Earlier this year, investors worried that AI models could become a competitive threat to Figma. The article notes that across much of software, that worry has largely faded.

Signs customers are using the AI

  • Weekly users using AI credits at organizations spending over $10,000 on Figma rose by almost 50%.
  • The share of work done by Figma's own AI model doubled.
  • The rate of people undoing AI-generated work has fallen.

What it means for you

If your team pays for design or other software, vendors may add more AI to existing plans without raising the price. Check what your plan includes now. The news came a day after design software startup Canva said it would cut 22% of its employees. It is not yet clear how much revenue Figma's move will cost. Executives were due to discuss results with analysts on a call at 5 p.m. ET.

The takeaway

Software makers are adding more AI at the same price, so check what your plan now includes before you pay for extras.
