Daytona, a three-year-old New York startup, is now valued at $1 billion. It announced on Friday that it raised $60 million in a Series B round, a later-stage funding round, led by FirstMark Growth. The company says it has raised $91 million in total. It is building a cloud for AI agents, which are programs that carry out tasks on their own.

What Daytona is building

Founder Ivan Burazin describes it as giving every agent its own computer. Agents get walled-off versions of Linux, Windows, macOS and GPUs (powerful chips used for AI) on one platform. Burazin argues that today's cloud was built for long-lived services. Agents, he wrote, spin up thousands of short jobs that nobody planned in advance, and they need a cloud made for that.

Who is backing it

FirstMark also led Daytona's $24 million Series A in February. This round added well-known individual investors, known as angels. Daytona says they include Stripe's Patrick Collison, Shopify's Tobi Lütke, Perplexity's Aravind Srinivas, Zoom's Eric Yuan, Datadog's Olivier Pomel, Quora's Adam D'Angelo and Mercor's Brendan Foody. Qualcomm Ventures, Samsung Next and Okta Ventures also took part.

What is not known yet

The material does not say how many customers Daytona has, what it charges or how much revenue it makes. The claim that agents need a different kind of cloud comes from the company itself. For now, the news shows that investors are putting serious money into the tools that run AI agents, and those tools may shape which business software you end up using.

The takeaway

Investors are betting that AI agents need their own kind of cloud, so expect more business tools built around them.
