Dayforce has agreed to buy Ribbon AI Inc., a company whose AI interviewer talks with job candidates by voice or video. The deal was announced on Oct. 23, 2026. Ribbon says it has completed more than one million interviews for hundreds of customers. So if you apply for a job, your first interview may be with software rather than a person.
What Ribbon does
Ribbon's AI holds a two-way conversation with a candidate at any hour. The employer starts with a job description. The AI then builds interview questions and a scoring rubric, which is a checklist for grading answers, using relevant past interviews.
Candidates are evaluated based on interview transcripts. Video and other built-in checks can flag unusual audio, gaze and response-timing patterns. The announcement does not explain what happens when something is flagged.
More than interviews
Ribbon also helps employers search the applicants they already have. It was tested across as many as 30 million candidates in a single applicant tracking system, the software that stores job applications. It can contact people by text, WhatsApp and email. Ribbon is also nearly done with an AI scheduling tool.
Who it affects
- Job seekers may face an AI interview before they speak with a recruiter.
- Past applicants may get a message about a new opening.
- Employers with many openings may screen people faster and at lower cost.
- About 90% of Ribbon customers use its recommended default settings.
Dayforce sells software for HR, pay, time, talent, planning and analytics. After the deal closes, Ribbon's technology will be built into a new product called Dayforce Agentic Recruiting. Agentic means AI that carries out steps of a task on its own.
What is not known yet
The announcement does not give a price or a closing date. It also does not say how candidates are scored in detail, or how much a human recruiter reviews. Dayforce's CEO said recruiters would focus on engaging talent and making the decisions that matter. Ribbon's CEO said the aim is hiring that is faster, more fair and more personal. Those are goals, not test results.
The takeawayIf an AI may interview you or your applicants, ask how answers are scored and whether a person reviews the result.
