Cloudflare has released an AI model called Clairic that it says pulls data from documents faster and more cheaply than large language models, the kind of AI behind chatbots. It is available now in preview on Workers AI, Cloudflare's AI service. Open weights, meaning the model files others can download, are set to follow soon.

What it does

You name the fields you want, such as an order number or an invoice total. Clairic returns a matching value for each one, in the right format, with a confidence score. If a value is not in the document, it returns "null." It can also handle simple calculations, estimates and forecasts.

The speed comes from how it works. A chatbot writes its answer one small piece at a time. Clairic answers every field in a single pass.

The speed claim

Cloudflare wants Clairic to work in a chain with other models. In its example, a customer complaint email goes in. Clairic pulls out the order number, amount and damage, then estimates the repair cost. A model called Clef applies company rules to pick a refund or a repair. GLM-5.3 writes the reply.

Cloudflare says that chain takes 19.3 seconds. It says GLM-5.3 alone needs 61.7 seconds for all three steps and costs almost twice as much. These are the company's own figures.

What is still unknown

Clairic cannot yet reliably handle longer chains of calculations. For now, developers should run those in their own code. The material does not give pricing, a date for the open weights, or independent accuracy tests. Businesses that process many documents may want to test it on their own files before relying on it.

The takeaway

Clairic is a preview, so test it on your own documents before counting on Cloudflare's speed and cost claims.
