Anthropic has merged two parts of Claude for its business customers. Chat and Cowork now work as one experience, so users no longer pick between them before they start. Anthropic announced the change on Friday, Oct. 23, for customers on Enterprise plans.
What changed
Every conversation starts as a regular chat. If a task needs to run code or work with files, Claude continues the same conversation in an isolated cloud sandbox managed by Anthropic. That is a private, walled-off workspace. The finished work then comes back for review. When the task does not need that, the conversation goes back to chat. It works on web, desktop and mobile.
What happens next
In administration settings, the feature appears as Chat and Cowork unified. For existing organizations it is off by default. Anthropic says it is due to turn on by default on Nov. 16. Companies that want a say in the timing should look at that setting before then.
Some things are not clear from the announcement. It does not say whether the merged experience is coming to other plans. It also does not say what, if anything, changes in pricing.
The takeawayIf your company uses Claude Enterprise, the merged chat and Cowork setup is due to switch on by default Nov. 16.
