Anthropic has added a Personal Finance feature to its Claude chatbot. It connects to your bank and card accounts through Plaid, a service that links apps to banks. You can then ask plain questions, such as where your money went this month, and get an answer.
What it does
Claude can break your spending into categories like rent and utilities, shopping and food. It can also say which bills are left before your next payday, whether you can afford something like a holiday trip, and how much you might save each month. It can explain financial terms too.
What it can and cannot see
- Access is read-only. Claude cannot move, manage or invest your money.
- Because Plaid handles the link, Claude does not see your banking passwords.
- It sees bank and account names, account type, last four digits, balances and credit limits.
- It can read up to two years of transaction history.
Anthropic says the tool is not designed to give investment advice. It calls Personal Finance a first step and says bigger money decisions are best made with licensed professionals. The company wants to hear from banks and wealth managers about working together.
What is not known yet
The material does not say what the feature costs, who can use it, or when it rolls out. It also does not explain how Anthropic stores or uses the account data. Those answers matter before you decide to connect anything.
The takeawayClaude can now read your accounts to explain spending, so weigh the time saved against sharing two years of transactions.
