Bluesky, the social network often compared to Twitter, had its busiest day of 2026 on Tuesday, as U.S. midterm results came in. CEO Toni Schneider said posts and likes doubled. He also wrote that new people are joining and old friends are coming back.

The numbers

The company's COO, Rose Wang, said activity peaked from 8 to 10 p.m. Pacific. Compared with the previous 30-day averages, daily posts rose 30%, likes rose 70% and clicks on links rose 20%. Open data for November 4 shows 44 million likes, 4.8 million posts and 2 million new follows. Data traffic ran 200% above normal.

The like count came close to Bluesky's all-time record of 45 million in a single day, set in November 2024.

Why it happened

Bluesky is sometimes called "Twitter for the left" because its users seem to lean that way. Its biggest stretch of growth came after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election. Those users were active on a night of strong results for Democrats.

What is not known yet

The material does not say how many new people signed up. It also does not say whether they will keep coming back after the news cycle cools. One night of heavy use does not show that a platform is gaining lasting ground. Businesses that post online may still want to check where their own customers spend time.

The takeaway

Big news nights can move crowds between platforms, so check where your customers actually spend their time online.
