Apple has released macOS 27.2 Golden Gate for Mac, and the headline change is language. The new Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Until now it was available only in English, which was the launch language with macOS 27 and iOS 27. The expansion makes it available to millions more people.

What else changed

  • New gesture recognition tools in several built-in apps.
  • A black-and-white Apple Music icon that replaces the red-and-white one.
  • A fix for a bug where windows in Electron-based apps stopped responding to dragging.

The gesture tools may be groundwork for a touchscreen MacBook Pro. Apple is expected to announce one this Wednesday at its "Pro and Tell" event. That is a guess based on the timing, not something Apple has said.

What to know before installing

Apple has not yet published release notes or security notes for this update. Updates like this usually include security fixes, so installing it is a safe bet even if you do not need the new Siri languages.

The final version is build 26B123. If you signed up for beta updates, you may need to turn them off before the new build shows in Software Update.

What is not known

It is unclear whether the new colorful Apple Music logo will later reach the app icon. Apple's full list of changes and fixes is also still to come.

The takeaway

Install macOS 27.2 even if you skip the new Siri languages, and turn off beta updates first if the new build does not appear.
