Apple is bringing new features for StandBy, its bedside clock mode, to many more iPhones. They first appeared on the new iPhone Duo. With iOS 27.3, Apple says they will reach all iPhone models that can run the update, which includes the iPhone 11 and newer.
What StandBy does
StandBy turns an iPhone into a bedside clock with extra details. You set the phone on a charger and turn it sideways, and it shows information you can read at a glance. On the iPhone Duo, StandBy also works when the phone is folded like a book or a tent, even when it is not charging. That fold-based setup is specific to the Duo.
What else is in the update
iOS 27.3 also adds vertical tabs in Safari, brings back Apple's redesigned Health app, and turns on some Apple Intelligence features in China. The first developer beta, an early test version for app makers, is out now.
What is not known yet
The source article does not spell out the new StandBy features in the text available here, so what they look like is unclear. Apple has also given only a month for the public release, December, not a specific date. Details should become clearer as testers try the beta.
The takeawayIf you have an iPhone 11 or newer, expect new StandBy features when iOS 27.3 arrives in December.
