Apple has released four new Mac accessories: two updated chargers, a power extension cable and a travel adapter kit. They arrived alongside the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR. Apple says all of them are available now and ship immediately.

What changed

The 70W and 140W power adapters replace the older versions. The main change appears to be support for a new kind of plug attachment, called AC Connector 2. The updated chargers now come with select MacBook Pro models.

The bigger news for travelers is that the World Travel Adapter Kit is back. Apple had discontinued the old kit because it stopped working with newer power adapters. The new kit includes five interchangeable AC plugs. These are the swappable ends that let one charger fit different wall outlets.

Who it affects

Anyone who takes a Mac abroad and wants one charger instead of a bag of separate adapters. Owners of older Apple chargers should pay the most attention. The old kit was dropped over a compatibility problem, so the charger you own may decide whether the new kit fits.

What is not known yet

  • Prices for the chargers, cable and kit were not given.
  • The material does not list which plug types are in the kit.
  • It does not say whether older chargers work with the new kit.
  • It gives no details on the extension cable.

Apple's product pages should answer those questions before anyone buys.

The takeaway

Check which Apple charger you own before buying the new travel kit, because the old kit was dropped over compatibility.
