Apple Music in CarPlay is getting a makeover. The first iOS 27.3 beta arrived this week, and it includes a redesigned Apple Music app for the car screen. Because it is a beta, the update is still in testing and is not the version most people have.

What changed

  • A Liquid Glass tab bar with icons and text for each tab
  • A white background, or a dark one when dark appearance is on in CarPlay
  • Resized elements, with more albums and playlists in each row of the Library

The tab bar is the row of buttons used to switch sections of the app. It now hovers above the content as you move around, so it stays within reach. As on the iPhone, you can slide a finger between tabs. Liquid Glass is Apple's name for its newer, glass-like design style.

The white background matches the redesigned Apple Music app icon, which first appeared in iOS 27.2. The reviewer at 9to5Mac found the layout denser in many places than before.

What to expect

The look may not be identical for everyone. It depends on the size of your car's display and on whether Smart Display Zoom is turned on. The material does not say when iOS 27.3 will be released to the public, and Apple could still change the design before then. Nothing was said about cost.

The takeaway

If you use Apple Music in the car, expect a new layout when iOS 27.3 arrives, and know that it may look different on your screen.
