Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple plans three new iPads in early 2027, including an OLED iPad Air. These are rumors, but they matter if you are about to buy.
Apple is expected to release three new iPads in the first half of 2027, according to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. The list includes a new entry-level iPad, an iPad Air with a better screen, and a faster iPad Pro. Apple has not confirmed any of it, so treat it as a rumor for now.
OLED is a screen type that usually gives deeper blacks and richer color. The iPad mini already has it, so the Air getting it would be no shock. If it happens, the iPad 12 would be the only Apple tablet left with an older LCD screen.
Gurman does not share many details here. He says an upgrade is long overdue because of Apple's recent price hikes. The basic iPad is no longer as cheap as it was, and rivals now have a clear price advantage.
Earlier rumors point to an A19 or A18 chip and 8GB of RAM, the memory a device uses to juggle tasks. That would be enough to run Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Some advanced features, such as Siri's expressive voices and advanced dictation, would still be out of reach. An OLED screen is not expected, and 256GB of starting storage is uncertain.
The Pro will arrive with either the M6 chip or the upcoming M7. That likely depends on whether the M7 is ready in the first half of next year. Rumors also say it could get vapor chamber cooling, a system already used in recent iPhones. The Pro is known for thermal throttling, which means it slows down when it gets too hot. Better cooling could help with gaming and AI tasks.
No launch dates are known. Based on past releases, late winter or early spring looks likely. The iPad Air M4 came out in March this year, and the M3 version arrived a year before that. Gurman adds that unless something is delayed, no other iPad refresh is likely later in 2027.
If you plan to buy an iPad, waiting a few months could get you a better screen or a faster chip. If you need one now, current models still work. Just know that newer ones may follow soon.
