Anthropic has opened a waitlist for Claude Duet, an AI assistant that keeps working on your tasks after you walk away. It was announced on Wednesday, October 21. For now it is open only to Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US.
What it does
Each morning, Claude Duet gives you a short rundown of top priorities from the apps you have linked to it. After that, it checks those apps every few hours. It contacts you only when something needs your input.
Tasks range from booking meetings to building dashboards, drawing up financial or sales forecasts and creating web apps. It runs on its own virtual machine, a separate workspace with a built-in browser. That means you can switch off your devices while it works. You get a notice when a job is done or needs a check.
It connects to more than 6,000 connectors and plugins. Named examples include Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Gusto, Docusign, HubSpot and Shopify. It is built around Claude Opus 5.5, Anthropic's model.
The safety limits
Anthropic says Claude Duet explains what it plans to do and waits for your go-ahead before it takes certain actions.
- Sending a message
- Paying for something
- Signing a document
- Deleting a file
Two actions are blocked even if you approve them: trading securities and moving money between accounts.
Anthropic also says the agent does not get direct access to your passwords. It has protections against hidden instructions meant to hijack it. A new classifier stops it from sharing the most sensitive data, such as credit card numbers and government ID details. Health or financial information is passed on only when you tell it to.
Where it falls short
Anthropic says the preview has rough edges. Claude Duet can get a conversation wrong or misjudge how urgent something is. It is weaker at personal errands, such as buying tickets. Users cannot yet watch its browser.
There is a cost to watch, too. Its regular background checks and bigger projects use up plan limits faster than ordinary chats.
What is not known yet
The material does not say when the waitlist will turn into general access, or whether it will reach users outside the US. It also does not give any extra price beyond the Pro or Max plan.
The takeawayIf you pay for Claude and want routine work handled for you, join the waitlist, but expect some errors and a faster drain on your plan limits.
