Anthropic Makes No 'Claude Bot,' So Know Which One You Mean

Anthropic sells no product called a Claude bot. If you see one, it is either an official tool under another name or something an outside company built.

Anthropic, the maker of Claude, does not publish a product called a Claude bot. There is no Discord bot, no Telegram bot, and no generic bot to install and point at your workspace. Bots built on Claude do exist, but they belong to other companies. Which one you are looking at decides who handles support and who holds your data.

What Anthropic actually sells

Anthropic lists seven product surfaces: Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Duet, Claude Tag, Claude Science and Claude Security. It also lists capabilities such as Artifacts, Connectors, Plugins, Skills and Claude in Chrome. Sixteen names in all, and none of them is a bot.

For most people asking, the closest match is Claude Tag, which is Claude inside Slack, the workplace chat app. It is available only to Claude Enterprise and Team customers. Claude Code is built for software engineering. Claude Cowork takes a goal and works across your files and tools, and it needs your approval before deleting anything.

Three things the phrase can mean

  • One of Anthropic's own products, described in a user's own words.
  • An integration an outside developer built using Anthropic's developer tools.
  • A product that borrows the Claude name with no tie to Anthropic.

When someone else built it

A developer can connect Claude's models to any chat service that accepts bots. In that case the model is Anthropic's, but the product is not. The developer runs it, hosts it, writes the terms of service, staffs support and decides what gets logged and for how long.

The material points to two things that change when you move from an official tool to a third-party one. Support moves, because you are asking the developer, not Anthropic. Data moves too, because your messages now pass through the developer's system. The source text is cut off before it covers the rest, so any further differences are not covered here.

How to tell them apart

An official product page names a surface you go to, a plan that qualifies and a job the tool does. If something has only a name and none of those, treat it with caution. There is also no single page titled Claude bot that settles the question. To get an official answer, start from a product name, not from the word bot.

Before typing work messages into anything called a Claude bot, find out who built it. That company, not Anthropic, would control support and your data.

The takeaway

Before using anything called a Claude bot, find out who built it, because that company, not Anthropic, controls support and your data.
