Amazon has joined two of its business buying catalogs into one. Companies that use AWS Marketplace Storefront can now show employees software, data and AI tools right next to physical goods and supplies from Amazon Business. Administrators set the approval rules once, and they cover both.

What changed

Many large companies already buy from both catalogs. Until now, they kept two catalogs, with duplicated approval rules and separate reporting. Now an administrator connects the company's Amazon Business account and imports Amazon Business products into the company's branded storefront. Here is how buying works:

  • Software purchases finish in the storefront and appear on the AWS invoice.
  • Supply orders go to an Amazon Business cart, and single sign-on means no second login.
  • Each storefront connects only to the accounts its administrator sets up.

Who it affects

The connector is for AWS Marketplace Storefront customers who have access to both the AWS Marketplace and Amazon Business APIs. An API is a connection that lets two systems talk to each other. It works in all AWS Regions where AWS Marketplace operates. Regions are the locations where AWS runs its services.

What is not known yet

The announcement does not say whether the connector costs extra or how many companies use it. It points readers to the AWS Marketplace Storefront product page and user guide for details.

The takeaway

Companies that buy both software and supplies through Amazon can now use one catalog with one set of approval rules.
