A new report says Anthropic's AI models are now getting better about twice as fast as they did before, and the company's own use of AI is the main reason. The report comes from METR, an AI research nonprofit. Tiffany Li covered it for The Information.
What the report says
METR compares the recent pace with the period from March 2024 through October 2025. It finds that Anthropic's models now improve roughly twice as fast. It credits Anthropic's internal use of AI for about 80% of that speedup. Put simply, AI use inside the company may have doubled its pace of AI development.
This matters because of the loop it describes. If AI firms use AI to build better AI, the tools you rely on may change faster than you expect.
What is not known yet
The full report was not available for this article. That leaves open how METR measured improvement, which models it looked at, and how it arrived at the 80% figure. The wording that AI use "may have" doubled the pace also suggests an estimate, not a certainty. It is also unclear whether other AI companies see the same effect, or whether the faster pace will last.
For now, a practical step is simple. If your business or household depends on an AI tool, plan to review it more often than you have been.
