Accenture, the global tech consultancy, says AI agents now screen resumes and schedule all interviews for job candidates. The company says a human still makes the final hiring decision.
What Accenture said
Kate Clifford, a senior HR executive, spoke at the company's recent investor day. She called the setup "frictionless recruiting." An AI agent is software that carries out tasks on its own. Here, agents read resumes and book interviews, while skills assessments help the process move faster. Clifford said recruiters were losing time to scheduling and typing into systems instead of spending it with candidates.
She claimed hiring time fell 28 percent and candidate quality rose 30 percent. She also said entry-level hires now become productive in six weeks, down from six months. These figures come from the company itself.
Reasons for caution
Not everyone is convinced. A 2022 study in the journal Philosophy and Technology found no support for the idea that AI hiring software makes the process fairer. It called such software "automated pseudoscience."
The article does not explain how Accenture's agents judge resumes, how candidate quality is measured, or whether applicants are told. Accenture serves around 9,000 clients, and tech professionals applying there are likely being screened by AI.
The takeawayIf you apply for a job, software may read your resume first, so use clear, plain wording that matches the job listing.
