AAWireless has launched a car phone charger with a fan inside. It is called AAWireless Charge, it costs $50, and it is sold only on the company's own website. The company is better known for adapters that turn a wired Android Auto connection into a wireless one.
What it does
The charger uses Qi2, a wireless charging standard that holds the phone in place with magnets. It works with MagSafe, Pixelsnap and Qi2 phones in general, and charges at up to 25 watts on phones that support it. The fan is there for cooling, and the company calls it quiet.
The box includes an air vent mount and an adhesive base. It also holds two magnetic ring adapters for phones that are marked "Qi2 Ready" but have no built-in magnets and no magnetic case.
Power and other details
- For best performance, AAWireless says to use the car's 12V outlet with the included adapter.
- A USB-C connection in the car also works, as long as it delivers enough power.
- There is no wireless Android Auto adapter inside the charger.
- It can be used alongside an AAWireless adapter while driving.
AAWireless adapters are still sold on Amazon. The new charger is not.
The material does not say when orders will ship, whether it sells outside the US, or how much cooler the fan keeps a phone. The noise claim comes from the company, not from independent testing.
The takeawayIf your phone overheats in the car, this $50 cooled charger may help, but confirm your phone or case has magnets or use the included rings.
